Located within the serene Ginger Garden of the Singapore Botanic Gardens, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Tembusu is a dining establishment that offers a "Borderless Straits" culinary experience. Situated at 1 Cluny Road, this restaurant, which soft-opened on August 3, 2026, draws its inspiration and name from the native Tembusu tree, a symbol of heritage and longevity in Singapore. The restaurant's all-day dining menu is a celebration of the diverse culinary traditions of the Straits, including Malay and Peranakan flavors, reimagined with contemporary flair. The cuisine is designed for sharing, featuring dishes that are both nostalgic and innovative. The ambiance of Tembusu is characterized by its "Straits Maximalism" design, which features intricately illustrated walls and ceilings, prominent timber columns, and woven pendant lights that create a warm and inviting atmosphere. The interior opens up to a garden-facing conservatory, offering picturesque views of the surrounding lush greenery. This pet-friendly establishment welcomes furry companions indoors, providing a comfortable retreat from the tropical heat. The operating hours are from 8:00 am to 9:00 pm daily, offering a range of dining experiences from a morning kaya toast set to a full dinner.

We visited on a Sunday that happened to be Singapore's National Day. The place was packed, and unfortunately, most of the main dishes had already sold out—so we made do with a selection of their desserts instead. That said, Tembusu itself is a gem—a beloved casual-dining spot nestled within the lush greenery of the Singapore Botanic Gardens. Housed in a charming colonial-era bungalow, it offers a serene escape from the city while serving up local comfort food with a modern twist. With its open-air terrace overlooking the gardens, it's a favourite for breakfast, afternoon tea, or a relaxed lunch surrounded by nature. And here's a bonus for pet owners—it's pet-friendly indoors with air‑conditioning, so you and your furry companion can dine in cool comfort. Even with just desserts, the tranquil setting made for a quintessentially Singaporean garden experience and gave us the perfect excuse to return for the mains.
